Development Pitch
I enjoyed a pleasant life until the age of ten. From that time onwards I was attacked by an unexplainable mental problem. I experienced difficulty in learning and doing anything in general. I was molested by unfriendly children and life was hard to cope with. Coming to the United States was somewhat of a relief in that I was able to complete high school without the strict conditions that existed at home in Nevis, West Indies. I enlisted in the U.S. Navy after high school. the military life was strenuous, but I was able to adjust to it. I was given great opportunity to advance my education, but found it difficult because of my mental problem. I became a merchant seaman after completing military service. I traveled from place to place trying on my own ways to cope with my mental condition, but it only grew worse. I have since earned my higher education, and been hospitalized in mental facilities. I have come a long way in my progress and overcoming obstacles. I write poetry when I am distressed and it helps me to regain a sense of inner peace and who I am. I am thankful for what I have achieved.
