In this talking-cat fantasy, Jem, a calico cat, feels her death is a mistake. She believes she is meant to be on earth with her loved ones, Molly and Nick, her humans, and Rusty, an elderly cat. Now in the afterlife, Jem longs to reverse her fortune. Will she be able to change her fate?

Short Summary

Jem unexpectedly dies and lands in the afterlife. She is met there by Marmalade, an orange cat who she had never considered to be her friend. Marmalade informs Jem that, as a newcomer to the afterlife, the calico cat has been assigned a guide-Marmalade. All Jem wants is for this nightmare to end.

Jem and Marmalade return to earth to witness Nick and Molly adopting a pair of kittens. Jem believes that if she is there, she can prevent this horrible mistake from occurring. Through this trip, she realizes that she is actually meant to be in the afterlife, and she returns home with Marmalade.

Development Pitch

The Loudest Meow could be an animated film or a television series. This series, The Cats of the Afterlife, is projected to be four books and scheduled to be completed in 2020. The books trace the character arc of Jem, a calico cat, new to the afterlife, who must find her true home, gain friends, develop new skills, fight against injustice, and realize her calling. The adventures and lessons learned in these books are both poignant and humorous and would appeal to cat lovers of all ages. I began this series when my beloved calico cat passed away, and I needed a process to help me deal with the grief. I decided to imagine what happened to my cat in the afterlife and populated that world with other cats I've known and loved. I believe that many people have had to deal with this event in their lives and will appreciate looking at this situation from the point of view of the cats in the afterlife.
