Short Summary

A student's body is found on the university campus by her tutor, forensic psychologist Dr Georgina Cavendish. Cavendish offers her expertise to help find the killer but it's rejected by DCI Whitney Walker, who fails to see how the upper-class academic can add anything to the investigation.

Development Pitch

I see this book as a TV series. I'd focus on the way the cop Walker is introduced to the academic Cavendish, showing how they complement each other's investigative skills while struggling to compliment each other on their relative strengths. I'd accentuate their differences. Cavendish went to a top boarding school, studied at Oxford and is from an upper-class family. Walker is from a working class family, left school at 17 after becoming pregnant, and went into the police force, where she worked hard to achieve her success. They are two sides of the same coin. They both want to solve the crime, but have very different approaches and beliefs. By the end of the book, chemistry is achieved in many respects and the crime solved. I'd also leave it open for the next books in the series, and show how despite their growing respect and liking for each other, their differences can still lead to conflict.
