Development Pitch

The Quest of the Guardians is a natural for adaptation to film. Each episode completes one part of the journey while providing a trail of clues that will lead viewers to the 4th and final episode. Each book has a story capable of standing alone as one film in a series, but they could be adapted into 2 long films or a TV series, too. The over-arching conflict is that the planet will be destroyed if the characters fail in their quest, but they must grow and evolve along the way to even understand what needs to be done, because their initial beliefs lack the insights that they must discover—which is that they cannot do it alone and need to unite all the peoples of their world to generate the needed power to stop the catastrophe. The MCs and their friends travel through four elemental realms, each with its own distinct culture that represent different cross-sections of society: the workers, the hippies, the intellectuals, and the red-necks. Each with their own world-views and ideas about how things should be. The MCs encounter friends and foes while battling bizarre creatures, discovering clues, solving riddles, and racing against the alignment of three moons. Only to discover in the end, that it wasn’t enough—they need all the different cultures to stop fighting and come together as one...which requires their willingness to make that choice. Dust of Earth is first in the series. Drop of Water & Gust of Wind are also available. The final book: Spark of Fire is being written.

Accuracy of Book Profile

Yes, the book profile accurately reflects the book.

Draw of Story

The story begins with magic and fighting. King Jakin is trying to get his family out of the castle while making a final stand against King Faeran. There is magic and adventure from the opening scene.

Possible Drawbacks

The book veers towards a young adult genre because much of the action centers around Malakai as he helps King Jakin. He is 15 years old, and he interacts with characters of the same age.

Use of Special Effects

Primary Hook of Story

The hook is this a medieval adventure story with magic and flying beasts.

Fanbase Potential

This could have a very large fanbase. In post Game of Thrones era, audiences are drawn to medieval stories with magic, thrones and battles.

Awards Potential

I do not see this having awards potential. This story does not have a lot of depth and neither do the characters. There was very little character development.

Envisioned Budget

Similar Films/TV Series

What’s New About the Story

There is nothing truly unique about this story. The suppression of knowledge in the kingdom - so the people accept only what they were taught - is an interesting element. The use of propaganda instead of just brute force and fear during that time period is more interesting.

Lead Characters

Nothing really stands out about the lead characters. There is no development in the characters during this chapter, which might be due to the fact that this story spans multiple books.

Uniqueness of Story

This is an average story with elements that freshen up the genre. A lot of these elements haven't been explained in depth because, I believe, it spans over multiple books.

Analyst Recommendation

This a consider at this time because there is potential. This is only the first part of this story and has room to grow into something very exciting.
