Yes, it does, even though the conclusion doesn't exactly count as a happy ending.

The story starts right in the middle of the action and gets you to know more about the characters later, which is a great strategy to get you involved in the narrative quickly.

The story is very well structured and full of compelling events, so I didn't want to stop reading at all.

THE STORY RELIES HEAVILY ON SPECIAL EFFECTS

The main hook is the existence of Norse gods, virtually forgotten, still living among us.

The characters have the same origins as some Marvel heroes/villains, but with very different personalities and backgrounds. While it may sound confusing to the audience, the story has a chance to generate greater interest in Norse mythology and form a large fanbase.

It would have good chances in specific Awards aimed at the fantastic cinema.

The story itself is not very original. Other similar narratives, involving gods and humans, have been created before, but the book makes up for it through the charisma of the characters and the action, which is very well written and engaging. To be more original, the book could go a bit out of the ordinary, especially deviating from tropes and creating more unexpected relationships between these characters.

They are brave, morally upright, and come from very different worlds, which creates an interesting atmosphere for the romance that begins to brew between them.

It's not a rare gem, but it's a very good book. With a little more originality, it could end up becoming a rare gem.

CONSIDER

For starters, the author's writing is very good and engaging. Although many of the things that are going to happen are predictable from the start, she manages to maintain a very rousing pace that makes it difficult to give up reading. Also, the actions themselves are well structured and timed, especially the fight scenes or the ones of battles against mythological monsters. Even characters who are against the protagonists gain some depth and aren't just described as big bad villains. At the heart of this entire narrative, the love story between a god and a human is gradually developed, allowing the reader to engage with this relationship, even though it was quite predictable from the start. Dealing with Norse mythology while there are already well-known film versions of gods like Thor and Loki could be problematic, but the focus on another lesser-known deity, which is Freyr, makes it clear that this is a very different adaptation of that mythology. There is a very interesting background of exploration of this mythological universe, which shows that the author has great interest and knowledge in this area. What's missing is a little more originality and unique characteristics that make this story even more different and allow it to survive in the public's memory. And, as the ending makes clear, if the adaptation is successful, there's plenty of room for other sequels and even a franchise.
