When the body of a cantankerous lobsterman washes up on a small island in Southern Maine, it sparks controversy, an arrest and unexpected plot twists in the coastal village of Somers Beach. A recent law school graduate, is asked to represent an old friend who is accused of killing a Maine lobsterman. The accused, a black man who once saved the lawyers life, needed legal help and was adamant that the young lawyer, despite his lack of real world experience, be the one to help him. Reluctantly, Charles Atkins agrees to defend his friend. His attempt to find the murderer leads to intrigue, frustration and two dramatic trials as well as the discovery of the traditions of the lobster fishing in Maine. The story tests the lawyer’s faith in his client and himself and leads the reader on a journey though coastal communities in Southern Maine, Massachusetts and South Carolina.
