Pete DeBoer enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1964 for a 4 year hitch. He retired nearly 23 years later after serving in a variety of jobs as a medic then a commissioned officer. He sailed in ships from 189' to 378. His three year assignment to the Cutter ESCAPE was the inspiration for the Novel Heave To. ESCAPE deployed on thirty drug interdiction patrols while he was assigned as Operations Officer and occasionally Executive Officer. After retirement, Pete worked in Real Estate, business and local politics. He served as an elected commissioner in the Port of Kingston Washington, west of Seattle. After publishing Heave To, he took off in his motor home in spring of 2017 and has been living on the road while working on the sequel to this story He is a licensed maritime captain and does part time work occasionally with sport fishermen in Alaska or as a charter yacht captain in Charleston South Carolina.
