    Synopsis

A man with a cane walks with his grandson who asks him to tell him “the story.” BILL, 28, is a race car driver. On the way home from the track, his wife LENA gets them into a horrible accident. She dies, and their son CHAD is paralyzed from the waist down. He also stops talking. Bill gets an offer to live in Australia with GREG, who will help rehabilitate Chad for free. Bill and Chad move in with Greg. Bill, the son of Australian racing legend William, gets tempted to get back into racing. Bill has brain cancer and only a few years to live.

NICK, ABBEY, RICHARD and TUBBS are his new friends. Nick is a fellow race car driver, Abbey becomes his love interest, Richard is the hard-ass head of the racing team and Tubbs is a huge man who puts Nick and Bill through grueling workouts to prepare them to drive in the biggest race in the world. Chad is happy his dad is racing again, although he still won’t speak. During the practice/qualifying laps on the track, the car is ruined. The race seems to be over for them. The next day, they have a nearly brand new car. Bill’s business partner and dad put in the money to fix the car and they’re back in the race.

Nick and Bill will share the driving in the race. Bill’s nemesis, DEREK, plays mind games and is usually just ahead of them in the race. Bill navigates the dangerous and hard turns on the infamous track with great skill - but misses winning by a fraction of a second. Derek is the winner but Bill’s team are happy and consider it a victory nonetheless. Chad finally speaks. Bill dies from cancer in a couple years and Chad becomes a race car driver and tells his grandson all about his father.
