Development Pitch
Sexy has had its moment and sickeningly sweet gets its due every Christmas. Rom-coms are so played out that Hollywood made a spoof movie about them. The modern woman deserves stories that put the emphasis on romance rather than sex, that are part fantasy, but still reflect real life. Been Searching for You has all the heart and humor audiences love, but none of the deception and lies that make traditional rom-coms stereotypical. Though most single people in their thirties have long traded in the idea of soulmates for casual sex and Mr. Right for Mr. Right Now, Annabeth has not. She’s still an innocent who is dedicated to finding her true love—no matter how many online dates or setups it takes—but she’s also still nursing a past hurt, that makes her reluctant to trust men in intimate situations. All that changes when she meets Professor Alexander Grantham, a work client with whom she shares a growing attraction. Just when things are heating up, her manipulative ex-boyfriend, Nick, reenters her life, forcing the men to fight for her affections and Annabeth to choose who is really “the one.” As women wait longer to get married—putting career and life ahead of a husband and babies—single women over 30, once anathema in romance, make up a larger part of viewing public. The modern women needs stories that pass the Bechtel test and indulge her romantic fantasies without forcing her to choose between her good and bad angels.
