Does your name define you? Meg was fearless as a child but a traumatic experience changes her behaviour and she becomes known as Mouse. A further devastating event means she moves to Scotland to live with an estranged aunt. Three years later, in 1970, determined to build her confidence, she works in a hotel before starting university. Can she hide her timidity and naivety and become Meg again? Or, will she forever be Mouse? She falls in love, with two men at the same time. Tommy, ‘the dark, moody’ but charismatic student and the shy local postman, Ross. She encounters numerous colourful characters, some nicer than others, and makes her first real friend, Kate, who introduces her to the delights of alcohol. Her new independence heralds the start of an honest and strong relationship with her aunt. However, inside, she is still Mouse. A sudden suspected murder. Is someone she knows guilty? Or, was it suicide? When faced with danger, will she be strong enough to discard her inner Mouse? As an adult, now called Maggie, she attends a reunion of some of the staff and learns how that summer affected their lives. Is she in danger once more?
