When one member of a big, close family suffers from mental illness and addiction, it reverberates throughout the family tree, reaching every limb. After Charlie's brother almost kills her 10-year-old daughter in a drug-driven car crash, the family is shaken to its core. The violent underworld of her brother's addiction literally comes to her door, dragging Charlie, and the rest of her family into a dark, unfamiliar world, filled with less than stellar people. This is a story of flawed human beings, in an imperfect family, trying to survive a shit storm of epic proportions. Although money is the most obvious motivation for your usual drug dealers, something else drives this one. It's in digging to discover what pushes Beaudry that reveals to this family, and Charlie herself, just how strong they really are. Charlie is a kickass soccer mom with a Mama Bear complex. She doesn't always make the right decisions, she doesn't have perfect hair, she doesn't have the perfect clothes, she isn't sexy in any traditional sense, and her smart ass gene runs deep. When readers tell you that your story made them laugh, cry, hold their breath, made their skin crawl, had them staying up all night to see how it ends, that it hits so close to home it made their heart ache, that they loved the characters, listen.
