Logline

The human trafficking cartel takes Menias Beacon’s unusual abilities more seriously than the district police who hired him. The officers think Menias helps find missing persons because he enjoys ‘slumming’ from his elite lifestyle. Both victims and suspects like talking to him and the department uses Menias for interviews and research. They do not know Menias is a mystic seeking to learn the nature of existence. His most current question, however, concerns a missing girl whose discovery leads to human organ smugglers victimizing undocumented immigrants. A lawyer, Yvette Hayward, finds him more interesting than her clients but his capabilities, demonstrated while saving her from Cartel attacks, shake her views of reality. They all think they know what Love is – Menias is about to find out. The story centers on the appalling problem of human trafficking, slavery, and prostitution that currently garners over 32 billion dollars per year.

Development Pitch

A mystic can do things, silent things, usually unseen and impossible to explain they ever happened. Menias, (Men-eye-us), Beacon is a mystic. He searches for missing people and is employed by the local police department, specifically he works with Sergeant Gillespie. His latest search unexpectedly antagonizes a human trafficking cartel. Menias' investigation throws him into a mission to save undocumented immigrants, who are tagged, inspected, and sold for body parts. His new love interest, Yvette, cannot understand his actions or abilities. Thugs do not see him when he seems to be in plain sight. He operates cars that refuse to start. Phones suddenly stop working. He finds people that cannot be found. The cartel kidnaps him and Yvette, attack his family, and recapture victims he has saved in the past. Menias' father defends his home from a wheelchair and is labeled an assault weapon using racist for employing a military rifle made in 1896. He serves pastries to the demonstrators. An assassin tries to push Menias in front of an elevated train, and the mystic saves the man who shoved him. Menias refuses an offer of money from a mob lawyer. Cartel thugs attack his home a second time with RPGs. Rene, a friend of the family and past wartime 'brother' of his father, saves both Menias and Gillespie from mobsters in a violent shoot out at an airport hanger.
