The story is about a gay slave in the days before the American Civil war. A most unusual slave, he was taught proper English, and spoke eloquently. He was sold to a new master and fell in love with the master's son. Soon, a sexual relationship developed between them. This is the story of their struggle, and it depicts the unfair and cruel treatment given African Americans at that time.
