Logline

What if you exist in two universes? And what if you must choose one? “Intersection Man” is a hard science fiction thriller set in the post-2025 period. Levan Lamarr, a former Marine, is dying of cancer. His wife, Mira, is pregnant and due to deliver their first child in a week. A mysterious scientist named Jonah Salter contacts the Lamarrs and claims he may have a cure for Levan’s cancer. The scientist’s device, the “Entangler,” can, in theory, restore the patient’s health. With the help of Bheem, Salter’s trusty Artificial Intelligence, Levan undergoes the procedure. During the healing procedure, the device creates a Quantum Entanglement between two of Levan’s bodies, each of which exists in a separate universe. Both bodies share a single consciousness. This entanglement is expected to last a few days. Levan, who is now cured, perceives both universes superimposed. The two universes are identical until Dr. Salter creates a divergence. But a series of unexpected events follow and things go horribly wrong.

Starting Description

Set in 2025, INTERSECTION MAN is a hard science fiction thriller with an original premise of a man stuck in the intersection of two universes

Ending Description

Intersection Man' has three sections: Book 1, 2 & 3. They follow sequentially and is part of the larger story involving the main characters, Levan Lamarr (ex-marine), Mira (Levan's wife), Dr. Jonah Salter/Fabian Berkovits (the scientist), Salter's AI called Bheem (Gaia), Lucius (Salter's misguided alternate self from another universe), Rohit Shah (the Indian billionaire), Aman Shah (Rohit's son), Chris Rosen (the powerful antagonist) and Bill Taylor (another psychopathic villain). There are also Levan's five army buddies who take part in several dangerous missions led by Levan. The first two sections are action-packed replete with numerous unexpected twists and have cliffhanger endings. The third (and final) book takes place thousands of years after the events of the first two. The AI Gaia (that evolved from Bheem) has finally gained control of the world. Gaia is now distributed across all species, residing mutely in a small part of the brain of every living thing and networked by the Earth’s (Schumann) resonant field. Gaia is now almost godlike. Humans are blissfully unaware and live entirely in virtual worlds fabricated by Gaia and maintained by another independent AI called Janet that Gaia cloned out of herself. Humans spend their lives in VR pods that allow them to escape into virtual worlds. Most are not even aware of Gaia’s existence. Using the Entangler, Gaia brings Jonah (who is now known as Fabian Berkovits) back to life. They are in a space complex, called the Quill hundreds of miles above the surface of the Earth. Quills are massive vertical cities held afloat by Repellon (gravitationally repulsive medium) banks and tethered to the Earth using superstrong polygraphene cables running space elevators. Gaia updates Fabian of the events that occurred in the intervening years. All the loose ends in the earlier chapters are resolved. Gaia and Fabian are each, in a sense, the creator of the other. Their relationship is turbulent. Gaia finally informs the horrific reason why Fabian was brought back to life after all these years. The virtual worlds that Gaia had created for the humans have become indistinguishable from the real world. This had made Gaia wonder if even the world that she thinks is real may perhaps be a virtual one fabricated by some higher reality. Over the many years, Gaia had become increasingly obsessed with finding an answer to this perplexing question. Gaia knew that the only way she could find this out was if she ceased to exist in her world. Since it was Fabian (then as Jonah) who created Gaia, she wanted Fabian to be the one who “switches her off.” But since she is now inextricably linked to every living thing on earth, switching off Gaia would mean the extinction of all life (except Fabian) on Earth. Fabian is at first horrified by Gaia’s suggestion and violently objects. Gaia says, with the aid of Janet she can end her existence even without Fabian’s help. But she would prefer Fabian to pull the plug on her rather than Janet because it was Fabian (as Jonah) who created her in the first place. Fabian grudgingly agrees, but he had one condition. He wanted to see how real Gaia’s fabricated world was. He wanted to spend a lifetime in a pod and live the virtual life of a fireman. After his fireman avatar dies in the virtual world, Fabian realizes how real his experience in the VR world was. There is a ceremony in which Gaia is put to rest. Fabian has the option to become the first man of the new world or return to the pod and escape to another virtual life. He thinks about it for a while and then enters the pod carrying Gaia’s lifeless body. He tells Janet to fill his pod with water instead of the usual nanite solution that allows him access to the virtual world. When Janet reminds him that it could mean his certain death, Fabian hugs Gaia’s lifeless body and says with a smile, “I want to see if Gaia was right.”
