Development Pitch

American JOHNNY WALKER hides his handsomely rugged appearance behind the façade of an African bar-room sot. In reality he is an undercover agent working for Interpol. By emulating a barfly, Johnny hopes to observe illegal transactions at the Mbuji bar. It is here he is approached by the desperate news reporter, HARLOW who tells of her urgent need to leave town. She relates how her probing into illegal police activities have resulted in a promise to detain her indefinitely behind bars if she doesn’t leave the area in twenty-four hours. The problem is, all the commercial fights out are over-booked. But luckily, she has heard Walker owns a small aircraft. Her problem is confounded by Walker’s caustic sense of humor when he plays a prank on her. Still, she must swallow her pride if she wants Walker to get serious; she must play on his sympathy. To placate the panicky Harlow. Walker gives her a native’s smelly juju bag which he says will protect her from harm. She reluctantly accepts the bag only to have Walker Shanghai her when he dives out a window after being falsely accused of murder. He says he intends to fly to Botswana in search of a missing friend, and Harlow is welcome to “tag along.” Though irritated by the fact she has little choice, she acquiesces. Though the two bicker constantly, their adventuresome relationship evolves from utter resentment to one of dependency, and surprisingly, a romance.
