Development Pitch

Over the years, I was grateful that mother and father both told me stories about my determined ancestors. It is a roller-coaster ride of deprivation, prosperity, love & betrayal a life described as a human tragedy and survival and finally finding great accomplishments and happiness. It is never too late.. A story that must be written down. Soon I would be 80 years old and maybe running out of time. Also, during conversations with my children and grandchildren, when I was speaking about my past, they often commented, “Why don’t you write it down?” More importantly, I was worried; when I depart this life, will my children or my descendants really know me? It was amazing, once I started to write, how memories started to flow from the past. I feel that I relived each moment as I wrote them down, laughing out loud at times, and sometimes sobbing my heart out. Reaching into my soul, I pulled up the memories. I am sure there are others who may see things differently, but that is not what this is about… this is about me…what I felt and how I saw things: my passions, my loves, my sorrows and my times of joy. The bad with the good. It is a view from the window of my soul. There is healing needed. By putting pen to paper, I hope there can be closure, not only for myself, but for all those whose lives I’ve touched. There are things for which I ask forgiveness. It is a Hopefully, by reading my life story, they may know me; truly understanding who I am for the first time.

About The Author

About the Author Eleanor is a mother of four, grandmother of eleven, and great-grandmother of three. She loves and adores her family. In 1975 she moved to Owen Sound and bought and ran the Diamond Motel. Always, there was more to Eleanor’s life – there was volunteering. She helped organize the local Zonta chapter because she believed that women should support each other locally, and around the world. She was named a Volunteer of the Year by the City of Owen Sound in April 2007. An advocate for better health care in rural areas she created a petition that was signed by more than 9,000 people and was presented to government in 2005. Eleanor combined her love of painting with running Bridges Art Gallery. She was made a Lady Knight in the Order of Alexander the Great in 2009. An honour bestowed on her to recognize her contribution to the art world, not only through her own paintings, but also for her efforts to create workshops, and lectures to bring art alive. Through her art gallery and her connections with the MEA (Museum of European Art) in Clarence NY, she provided opportunities for local artists to show their work. At the age of 82, she is retired from business, but is still painting, pole-walking, traveling, and delighting in her friendships and family. Those who know her well, would say she is energetic, feisty, generous, and loving. Her art and community spirit are appreciated by the townspeople of Owen Sound, Ontario, where she still resides.
