Development Pitch

Today the Waiting is a book about two children, Jason 6 and Bethany 3 that run away from a mean baby-sitter. They go looking for their father but find our main character Harry Cochrane and his son Todd instead. Bethany has a fever so Harry takes them into his home only to find out from the police that their mother is in the hospital and the father was killed in an accident a few months before. Harry also takes the mother, Laurie McKnight in to convalesce. Harry losses contact with them as they move to South Carolina from Indiana. They meet up again in Florida a year later when Harry and Todd hear a News Bulletin that two children have been kidnapped with Jason and Bethany's description. They go to the police station in Fort Lauderdale, to support Laurie in her time of need. Her travelling companion, Dennis took the children. After a few days the children are safely recovered. The family disappears again. Harry and Todd are devastated. They hookup once again in South Dakota during a forest fire the following year. Harry and Todd help Laurie and the children evacuate as their town where they are visiting is in the direct path of the raging inferno. Harry gets roped into fighting the fire and backs over a cliff trying to drown the flames. Now he is so badly injured the table turns. Harry is now the one that needs help. Now it is Laurie's task to come to his aid. Will they be a family at last? If the children's secret plan works, they will.
