Short Summary

Jake Brabston is a PTSD former Marine pilot. When approached by his former C.O. he takes a job flying relief planes in the Sudan. There he meets Jill Amidon, a dedicated relief worker with little time for romance. The two meet on an R&R in Mombasa and share love and adventure.

Jill is accompanying a food shipment up the Nile when it is attacked and captured by government soldiers. She is taken to a Dinka town where she witnesses a massacre by the government soldiers (true in the 1980s). Jake finds her and is flying out of danger when she dies of her injuries.
