The story revolves around the disappearance of 9 children and their 3 puppies in the 1950s when they come across a derelict railway car [caboose] long abandoned on their farm whose entrance and exit doors once every 20 years allow it to open and close to the past 5 billion years of Earth's history entrapping all who enter. It does so by creating a gigantic whirlwind that shields the caboose when it becomes temporarily operational. It becomes known as the terrifying SENTINEL to the surrounding farm community. The children struggle to survive their first alien environmental Ice Age encounter. It is the North American debut of a prehistoric Alice In Wonderland chronicle set in a real farm community and prairie towns that once actually existed in the 1950s.
