A huge, likeable, but maladroit Victorian rookie constable wants to solve the Whitechapel murders to atone for letting the Ripper escape. His superiors, perceiving him as daft, reject his theories. The distinctive quarterly Hanbury Brewery chimes convince him Annie Chapman’s killer had accomplices. He tracks them, but his murder prevents him from bringing them in. After the gang members are dead, a written confession confirms his reasoning.
