Development Pitch

SAME TIME, YESTERYEAR is a technicolor ten-hour fantasy epic that helps fill the void of heartfelt, inspiring, family friendly entertainment much like "Stranger Things" has accomplished. Set in 1959 our story is a sweeping cinemascope saga steeped in adventure, nostalgia and romance. From the grand spectacle of Doc Brown’s time traveling train in Back to the Future III…Dorothy opening the door from a sepia drenched Kansas to the colored bounty of Oz…the musical vibrations from a fire breathing hot rod in Grease…the escape from today to yesteryear in a small town named Mayberry…Kevin and Winnie’s first kiss in The Wonder Years… Our journey begins at the junction of Route 66 and the Majestic Iron Railroad. You will discover a tunnel that leads to an oasis known as Hickory Springs, The Jewel of Americana. This is a land of drive-ins and soda shops. The jukebox and the chrome. Leather and grease. The innocence of young love amidst the backdrop of a bygone era… …and Miss Sylvia Woods is going home. She will travel through that tunnel and go back fifty years in time for a second chance to change her future and save the life of her first, her only true love…Mickey Calhoun. We believe that audiences are craving an escape to a world that makes sense. About The Author

C. D. was conceived and born in the backseat of a ‘55 Chevy while the radio poured the sounds of the Kings and Queens of rock and roll. At three he was greasing his hair. By five he was wearing shades and at seven he was smoking unfiltered cigarettes. That’s what he tells people. But don’t let the shaved head and handle bar mustache fool you because beneath the buckled boots, black jeans and muscle shirts lurks a dreamer who desires nothing more than to deliver a one-two punch of heart and soul into every tale he tells. While C.D. didn’t have much patience for a formal higher education, it was the romance in the school of life that appealed to his nomadic nature. Growing up cruising the valley streets of California to exploring the small towns in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada gave birth to the characters and places in his work. It was the idea that your perfect world could lie beyond the mist of the ocean, the bend in the river or through the tunnel down the railroad tracks that captivated C. D.’s imagination. You will find the influences of Rod Serling, Ray Bradbury and Stephen King wrapped in the nostalgia of television shows like The Twilight Zone, The Wonder Years and Mad Men. You will see nods to films such as American Graffiti, Somewhere In Time and La La Land. Now in the autumn of his life, C. D. has taken his years as an accomplished actor, screenwriter and train enthusiast and applied them to the Hickory Springs and Railways West Novels. He has settled into life in the Pacific Northwest with his lovely wife and daughter where he hosts a weekly YouTube radio show featuring the news from Hickory Springs. You can still catch him waxing that old ‘55 Chevy with his two dogs down at the Bee-Hive Diner. If you see him, tell him I sent you. He’ll most likely buy you a shake and tell you a tale or two from yesteryear.

Accuracy of Book Profile

The book profile does not accurately reflect the book. Sylvia goes back to save her first love but not the soul of his killer or their hometown from eternal extinction. The bad guy needed to be defeated and there was no threat to the town.

Draw of Story

The story has the voice of a bold woman at the end of her life. She has a flare for the dramatic and a love for old movies and pop culture. She is funny and lively even as she is facing the end.

Possible Drawbacks

The characters seem too young for the story. Sylvia goes back to her 13 year old body to save 13 year old Mickey. There are some playful and tender moments with them that are more suited for people in their late teens or early 20's. The story would feel more appropriate with characters at least 16 years old.

Use of Special Effects

Primary Hook of Story

The hook is that Sylvia is given the chance to change her future by saving a friend from the past. She is a 63 year old woman sent back to her 13 year old self to save her first love from a horrible death. This movie would be an interesting watch, seeing Sylvia get that second chance and wondering if she will accomplish her goal.

Fanbase Potential

This could have a large fanbase. It is a story that would appeal to a wide audience. It could be categorized as a family film. There are a lot of sentimental moments and it ends with the good guys winning. Sylvia saves Mickey and they live life together.

Awards Potential

This does not have awards potential. This is not a gripping story with compelling characters. It is entertaining but doesn't break any molds.

What’s New About the Story

Sylvia travels back into her younger self with all the knowledge of her 63 year old self. That perspective hasn't been done very much, especially with that age gap and maturity level. It is not done in a comedic way but a thoughtful, reflective way.

Lead Characters

The lead character is a lively lady with a sassy personality. There aren't many characters like that as leads and in stories such as this.

Uniqueness of Story

This is an average film that is still entertaining considering it is not very original. It could be more unique if how she was able to go back in time were explored more. This is not science fiction, but leads more towards fantasy with explaining the reason she gets the second chance.

Analyst Recommendation

This is a consider because it is a well thought out, well written story. The characters are interesting if a little 2 dimensional. Time traveling back into one's younger self hasn't been done much before. There is a strong female lead who saves the guy instead of the damsel in distress scenario. It also deals with themes of reaching one's dreams, life's realities and living the life you want.
