Development Pitch

STACY ROMANI, Roma (Gypsy) and world-class biochemist, lets her clan con her into creating designer drugs, agonizing between morality and clan loyalty. AATOS PIRES wants to heal animals, but has an ego that demands large-scale success, so he invents bioengineering equipment capable of building healing viruses from the ground up. Then a woman with a deformed moral compass uses Pires' invention to craft a unique type of plague, to wipe out the sickness that is humanity. The FBI thinks Aatos is responsible for the deadly pandemic made with his equipment and spreading across the globe. Aatos can't help but think he's the only one who could design a cure, but he needs to hide to work on it. When he sneaks into Stacy's lab, she sees an opportunity for redemption for her drug work by helping to engineer a fix to the plague. Then things get complicated. The FBI hunts Aatos and Stacy. The CDC flails and fails in their attempts to contain the disease. The plague creator's co-conspirators ramp up their activities, to disrupt any progress toward a cure. And Stacy ends her clan's drug trade to support manufacture of any cure they may come up with. Meanwhile, Columbians, long pissed off about the clan's designer drugs screwing up their business, sneak into the country and put out a bounty to locate their competition. Betrayal by a fellow Gypsy. Back-to-back raids by Columbians and FBI destroy the facility. But enough curative virus got out. Success, & Stacy & Aatos get a "sort of" HEA.

About The Author

Charley Pearson retired after a career with the U.S. Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program (a.k.a. Naval Reactors), overseeing chemical and radiological environmental remediation at closing facilities following the end of the Cold War, releasing them for unrestricted future use with EPA and state agreement. Other deeds included creating a lay-up protocol for ships going into extended maintenance periods that saved the Navy tens of millions of dollars in later rust-removal efforts. Upon retirement, awarded the National Nuclear Security Administration silver medal, the Navy’s Superior Public Service Medal, and what insiders jokingly refer to as “the vaunted NR plaque.” Charley can be found at charleypearson.com (includes contact information).
