ALBERT ROSS is a black-browed albatross in the wrong place. Lonely and alone, he roams the coastal waters of Scotland in search of a mate. He is studied by Tripp, a crusty photojournalist with a heart problem, and Amanda, an ornithologist with a vibrant attitude. Romance is the result.

Albert Ross is shot by grouse hunters. Tripp finds him and suffers a fatal heart attack. Amanda, pregnant with Tripp's child, scatters their ashes on the Southern ocean, watched by two albatrosses.
