Logline

Take six young, lovable, but mischievous marines and their commanding officer, who are characterized as “misfits”; expose them to a preposterous military concept proposed by a congressman of questionable ethics — who is also the chairman of the Armed Forces Committee and needing an election issue to help his failing re-election campaign; add an obliging bureaucratic Pentagon team who take a single paragraph of the congressman’s military concept and turn it into a 137-page “Tactical Air Support Procedural Manual”; involve a three-star marine general who just found out that the project had been assigned to the Marine Corps and then immediately commanded “Bury the damn thing!”; mix all of them in with some phony demonstrations of the concept, discreet disregard for military procedures, romantic interludes, and some genuine heroics in the 1950s Korean “Police Action,” and you have the story of “The Boys From D.I.R.T.”
