What We Liked

Fantastic, adventurous YAs are always a potential success, due to the genre's large and enthusiastic fanbase. "Bloodlines" brings a heroine who's suffered many losses, yet is strong enough to keep on fighting for the good side. Siena is resourceful, and when she teams up with strong, independent Maya, they can't be stopped. Her mission is intriguing: finding the missing artifact and the third chosen one to finally destroy the evil Fallen, bad angels who feed on human suffering.

Film: "Bloodlines" has a rich thrilling narrative, and if adapted into a movie would keep the audience at the edge of their seats from beginning to end. The adventurous journey that takes place in Canada, US, Turkey, and Ireland can bring to the younger audience a great summer escape, if released theatrically or in streaming platforms. The story has incredible visuals that would appeal to viewers, like Zach and Siena's flight over the Baldwin cliff or the underworld cave of the Fallen's lair.

TV: "Bloodlines" would work great as a TV series, as Siena and Maya's journey is long and in a serialized narrative, each episode could dive deep into the details of the world and the characters who inhabit it. Both Siena and Maya have complicated pasts to be unraveled, the story has an antagonist who is under construction, Joe and Zach each hide their own skeletons, and time and space to develop the story can only play in favor of creating a strong TV show targeted to young adult audiences.

Synopsis

Siena is happy to leave behind the town of Banff, as well as her tragic and complicated past, to go to Baldwin, where she'll start college. She's still haunted by flashback nightmares about Taylor, her best friend who disappeared, Seth, her friend who tried to murder her, and Zach, her ex-boyfriend and guardian angel who went out on a mission. In Turkey, Maya loses her only living relative, her aunt, and goes alone to start college in Baldwin, where she meets her roommate Siena. Siena is ready to start a new life - she befriends Maya, and Eddi, their neighbor. She doesn't tell anyone she's one of the three chosen people to defeat the fallen. When Zach surprisingly returns from his mission, Siena happily believes they will be together again, but Zach informs her they must end their romance, as ordered by Zach's superior, the Holy One.

Siena tries to move on with the help of her new friends, but has a hard time. Until, one day, she meets Joe, an intelligent and handsome college student with whom she begins a relationship. Meanwhile, Maya needs to travel back to Turkey to deal with paperwork regarding her aunt's will, and Eddi relies on Siena to overcome her loneliness, and hide her drinking problem.

But when Eddi mysteriously dies, Siena realizes the fallen is involved. Maya returns to Baldwin, and Siena notices on her things a proof that Maya is also a chosen one. Siena tells Maya everything about the fallen, the prophecy, and the missing artifact, she encourages Maya to find it.

Maya, Siena, and Joe embark on a trip to Turkey to try to find the missing artifact. Maya realizes it must be in the museum her aunt took her to visit every day, and she goes to look for it, but find it gone. When she returns home, she is attacked and kidnapped. When Siena and Joe find out Maya was kidnapped, they go after her, only to find out that Shiloh, an angel who was previously interested in Zach and was Eddi's roommate, was behind it all. Shiloh reveals to have switched to the Fallen's side, that Joe is also one of the fallen, and that she was responsible for Eddi's death. Infuriated, Siena tries to fight her, but loses; regretful, Joe confesses he was forced to become a fallen, but his loyalty and love lays with Siena, and to prove it he kills Shiloh, saving Siena and Maya.

Meanwhile, in the Fallen's lair, Taylor - Siena's best friend who was kidnapped - is converted by the fallen; she becomes a power force and seeks revenge against everyone on her previous life.

The trio returns home to Baldwin, and before they can figure out their next step, the police informs Siena that her brother was attacked and is in a coma. Siena and Maya travel to Banff, to take care of Siena's brother. Joe joins them, as a surprise, but Siena feels too overwhelmed by him and asks him to leave. However, before he does, Siena's brother wakes up and she finds out her mentor, Alo, is missing. As per Alo's instructions, Siena knows she and Maya are in danger, so she retrieves her artifact and Alo's instructions on where to hide. Meanwhile, Taylor - now strong and mean - murders her mother and sister who never treated her well.

Siena, Maya, and Joe head to an address in Ireland, where they'll find help. But instead, find a place in ruins. Malachi, an old wise man, find them and take them to his house, where he teaches them about the ritual they'll need to perform once they find the third chosen, now in the fallen's custody. Zach asks Siena to her forgiveness, and joins their mission.

With Malachi's help, they are able to find the fallen's lair. Joe, Siena, and Zach enter the cave to look for the third chosen; they find him, and Joe pretends to be one of the fallen to let the chosen go and murder their leader. On their escape, Siena tries to find Alo, but he's too hurt to survive. On their way out, a snake bits Siena, who gets severely sick.

Zach takes care of Siena, at Malachi's house, until she's better again to fight. Malachi tells them they need to perform the ritual, even though they are missing the third artifact, because the fallen are getting too powerful to be stopped. When Siena, Maya, Joe, Zach, and the third chosen leave Malachi's house to buy supplies, Taylor arrives looking for the chosen ones. Malachi doesn't tell her anything, but she murders him nonetheless.

When Siena and her friends return, they find Malachi dead and rush to escape the place before whatever killed him kills them too.
