Brief

Gigi was abandoned by her mother on the streets of New York when she was still a baby, and a man took pity on the little girl by taking her home and taking care of her. With that, Gigi learned the power of not giving up in the face of life’s adversities and started to dream big, even when nothing seemed favorable. After seeing a movie with Benício del Toro, the girl is impressed with the actor’s performance and falls in love with him, promising herself that she will be face to face with the idol one day. She graduates in journalism and gets a spot in a film magazine, thus gaining the opportunity to interview her idol and get closer to him, but she doesn’t realize that a severe illness is about to take her life.

Accuracy of Book Profile

It is accurate.

Draw of Story

The story is told in an easy and engaging way, which almost resembles that of an innocent and dreamy teenager, as the character asks. This attracts attention in the first pages of the book.

Possible Drawbacks

The repetition of the narrative is a bit tiring. Everything that takes place in the story is aimed at Gigi’s meeting with actor Benício del Toro. Gigi’s character is almost insistent and monothematic in her conversations as if her life revolves exclusively around it. As much as this is the character’s goal, it would be interesting to see other nuances of the character.

Use of Special Effects

THE STORY DOES NOT RELY ON SPECIAL EFFECTS

Primary Hook of Story

The hook would be to see a girl without great prospects in life achieve the biggest dream of her life.

Fanbase Potential

The narrative, regarding tone, style and plot would reach a very restricted audience, more aimed at young audiences.

Awards Potential

It would have the potential for awards only if there was a sudden change in terms of plot. If Gigi could show her many facets beyond meeting her idol, and her struggle to fulfill her dream while struggling to survive. If the story had that extra bit of drama, it might have more potential for awards.

What’s New About the Story

The presence of an actor like Benicio del Toro playing himself in a youth novel is in some ways original.

Lead Characters

Gigi is a childish girl for her age who dreams of achieving her dreams, which in a way is positive because it makes her a persistent and likable character. Camille ends up becoming too much of a Manichean villain, like an even more ironic and Machiavellian Miranda Priestly.

Uniqueness of Story

It’s not a rare gem. The story has good intentions and a fun trigger (meeting Benicio Del Toro), but it ends up falling into a repetition of themes and actions that end up making the whole thing a little tiring.

Analyst Recommendation

WORK IN PROGRESS

Justification

It’s a work in progress because it has some choices that don’t seem believable enough or that sound a little too childish for a film that aims to reach an audience of up to 34 years old. A readjustment in structure and a deepening of characters would be necessary to make the narrative more thought-provoking.

Tips for Improvement

Some changes would be necessary. At times the characters do and say things that do not suit the characters and their ages. Gigi is already in her first internship at a place she really wanted to work in, but spends part of her first day trying to find a photo of Benicio to put in the background of the computer or gets into a chat about how much she loves the actor in her first meeting with the editor-in-chief of the magazine. As much as Gigi likes Benicio above all else, she is already a young adult entering a corporate environment. It doesn’t make much sense for her behavior, making her look like a much younger girl than she actually is, much more innocent than she should be. Things Ian does and says also sound unbelievable. He is the editor-in-chief of the magazine, and in his first contact with his new employee, he asks her if she takes controlled medication, suggesting that loving someone you don’t know is crazy. He even sees his supervisor with a client in the next room and comments to Gigi that the boss will have sex with that man in exchange for money. It seems pretty pointless for a professional man in his work environment. That says a lot against his character, and these parts would need improvement. However, perhaps the part that would benefit most from a change is that Gigi doesn’t show great emotions towards her illness. She discovers a terminal disease with no chance of life, and she just keeps thinking about meeting Benicio del Toro. Even though she has severe bleeding happening inside her, she is neglectful of her health and travels by plane to meet her idol. Another critical factor in the book is that if the actor Benicio does not accept being in the film’s cast, everything would fall apart because the story revolves entirely around him, which makes adapting this book even more challenging.
