Development Pitch

Spence is a stand-up comedian who hasn't had a TV appearance in 8 years. His once-hot career has gone cold and now he's struggling as he works in dive bars and nearly-empty comedy clubs. He's not getting any younger, and yet he has no idea what else to do with his life once he leaves show business behind. On top of that, he's pretty certain that his agent has been ripping him off for years. Enter Samantha. While working a comedy club gig in Canada, Spence meets this witty and adorable woman who has him rethinking the path he has chosen, and his years of pushing romance and relationships to the side. Suddenly, the late-nights of drugs and drinking and sex with groupies isn't as appealing as it once was. Samantha brings out the best in Spence, at that includes bringing out the best performances he's had in years. In the midst of falling for Samantha, Spence receives a request to perform on "The Tonight Show," a lifelong dream come true. This is his chance to finally break out of his slump and see his career finally take off as he's always struggled to do. But, deep down, he's not even sure that's what he wants out of life anymore. With the help of Samantha and his now-redeemed agent, Spence decides he can have the best of both worlds. He takes his comedy success and moves into a successful career in radio, making a home in Toronto with Samantha and finally finding the happiness he's been craving his entire life.
