State Police Narcotics Agent Jim Richards, whose 20-year career is nearing an end, thought that he had seen just about everything. Then, during an investigation, Agent Richards discovers that there is evil in this world he is not equipped to handle. Evil in the form of a demon.

Short Summary

While conducting an undercover purchase of drugs, Agent Richards begins to suspect that demonic forces are in play, forces that tie back to his childhood. As his investigation moves forward, Richards suspicions are validated by the arrival of officials from the Vatican, and a rising body count.

An encounter in a dark basement leads to the death of a friend, the discovery of infiltrations into the ranks of law enforcement and the church, and a final violent confrontation that brings Agent Richards face to face with the demon and it's followers.

Development Pitch

There has always been evil in the world. Some of it is men visiting violence against their fellow man, and some of it is a darker, more potent form of evil brought to us in a shape other than man. This evil has been called many different things by many different cultures; we know it best as demon. THE BASEMENT, which is loosly based on a paranormal experience by the author, follows the main characters as they try to understand, accept, and then repsond to such an evil. This process involves violent confrontations, and the fear, and pain that comes with them. A process all to familiar to modern day law enforcement officers. As a film, or television adaptation, it's this process, along with the intermixed action, suspense, and exploration of the paranormal that would make it appealing to a wide audience.
