    Development Pitch

This is a very contemporary story about love and friendship. Through the three main characters who have very different personalities, we see the importance of friendship, and the challenges that these women face together. The characters and their situations are very relatable, true to life, and a bit sexy too. Eternally single Briony is looking for love, long-term, married, mum, Natalie, is having an affair with spin instructor, Jason and Lauren has conflicting feelings about who could be her ‘Mrs Right’. As a TV series this would be a modern day, twist, on Sex and the City. People will invest in Briony, Natalie and Lauren, and want to binge the episodes to see what the girls get up to next. Reader reviews have said that the characters are so relatable, and everyone knows someone just like either, Briony, Natalie, or Lauren. They'll become part of the household and friends of the audience. People will experience, empathise, enjoy and despair with the women. Leading female characters have proven to be very popular recently, with the successes of, Orange is the New Black, Dead To Me and You, Me, Her. Two scoops, not Three - will be a light and fluffy, true to life, show, where people will fall in love, with the leading women. They’ll look forward to the escapism, provided by the characters. Accuracy of Book Profile

Yes, the book profile accurately reflects the book.

    Draw of Story

The story follows three best friends with a very close relationship. This will be relatable to many people, especially woman with strong female friendships.

    Possible Drawbacks

The book does not have a central plot. It chronologizes a time period in these friends lives. The story has a slower pace because of it. Lauren felt like a supporting character instead of one of the three best friends. To avoid this there could be a common event that the friends were supposed to attend. The bombing at the Ariana Grande event is a turning point for the characters. They could possibly had planned to attend because of their share loved for the singer and because of a fight, they didn't. There needs to be something that ties them together besides drunken nights out.

    Use of Special Effects

THE STORY DOES NOT RELY ON SPECIAL EFFECTS

    Primary Hook of Story

The hook is that three best friends must navigate through the trials of life and accept the decisions they make. Will their friendship weather the change? I would watch this movie for the camaraderie and the strong female bonds. There are very realistic portrayals of woman who don't have their lives together and make mistakes.

    Fanbase Potential

This could have a large fanbase. The story explores female friendships and the hard patches we all face in life. It also incorporates a real life tragedy and explores the emotions surrounding it. It also explores LGBTQAI relationships.

    Awards Potential

This does not have awards potential. The plot is not gripping or groundbreaking and the character development is typical for this genre of story.

    Envisioned Budget

    LOW BUDGET

    What’s New About the Story

The story is not original. It is about female friendships which has been done many times before. The only original element is that Lauren is a lesbian and that her and Briony end up together. If this were developed earlier in the story and the dynamics of the friendship were explored, it would be more unique.

    Lead Characters

The lead characters do not stand out. They are three normal woman, living life the best they can. They make decisions that take them down a certain path and they deal with the consequences. They are relatable but not exceptional characters.

    Uniqueness of Story

This not a rare gem. It could be improved by having a more diverse cast. The problems these women are facing in the plot are very stereotypical women issues. Natalie is feeling unwanted in her marriage and ends up sleeping with her personal trainer. Briony is constantly dating the wrong type of man and falls in with another one, inevitably getting hurt. There are lots of problems they could be facing but woman's worth is constantly tied to their relationship status. They could be having serious issues dealing with family or physical and mental health, issues that are more universal.

    Analyst Recommendation

    WORK IN PROGRESS

    Justification

While the story has many positive points, it has room for improvement (see possible paths below). If you can't change the story at this point, my suggestion is using your notes as a guide to highlight the best aspects of it when taking the next steps, either putting a pitch page together, a treatment, or a presentation.

    Tips for Improvement

For this to be a recommend there needs to be a stronger story. The characters are solid, even though lacking in diversity. The woman can be facing more hard hitting issues like illness, poverty, abuse, PTSD, abandonment, job harassments, death, etc. There could be more exploration of emotions in those situations that would also give it more awards potential.

    Brief

Briony, Natalie and Lauren are in their early 30’s and have been best friends since school. Over a series of events, the girls find that their friendships are challenged and will never be the same again.

    What We Liked

This is a fun, sexy story about women in their 30s and will appeal to women of all ages.

Film: As a film, this would be a big romantic comedy with splashy outfits and steamy love scenes.

TV: As a television show, this would be a fun, serialized comedy following the lives of these three women.

Key points: Multiple leads; Happy ending; Romance; Plot twists; Steamy love scenes

    Synopsis

Briony takes her car, Gina, through the car wash, but accidentally leaves her sunroof open, so her car is soaked through the inside. She arrives back home to find that her roommate and best friend, Lauren, is back from her stint singing on a cruise. Lauren is gay and tells Briony about the beautiful women on the cruise. Lauren is worried that she will have to share Briony with her boyfriend Andre, but Briony has recently finished with Andre after finding out that he is married. The two decide to call their other best friend, Natalie, to join them for a night of drinks and debauchery.

Natalie, meanwhile, is sleeping with her spin instructor, Jason. She feels bad for cheating on her husband, Martin, but reasons that he’s been working so much lately that he hasn’t been able to pay attention to her, whereas Jason constantly showers Natalie with compliments and affection. Natalie receives the call from her friends inviting her to hang out and decides that she can’t burden her friends with the secret either. Natalie realizes she hasn’t had her period in a while and takes a pregnancy test. She learns that she’s pregnant, and knows it has to be Jason’s as Martin had a vasectomy after the birth of their second child. Natalie shoves the pregnancy test deep into her purse to hide it and goes to hang out with her friends.

While hanging out with her friends, Natalie exudes herself to go to the bathroom and Lauren accidentally drunkenly spills hot chocolate into Natalie’s purse. Briony opens it to try and dry the purse out and discovers Natalie’s pregnancy test just as she returns from the bathroom. Briony is furious with Natalie for cheating on her husband and kicks her out. The next day at work, Briony meets her boss’s handsome son Mani, and makes a fool of herself. She really likes Mani, however, and flirts with him the following day. To her delight, he invites her out on a date

Meanwhile, Martin finds out about Natalie’s pregnancy and is hurt, but wants to stay and make it work for the kids. Natalie promises him that she will break up with Jason, but just can’t do it when she see’s Jason. Jason brings her on a date and it’s at the same place as Briony and Mani’s date. Briony and Natalie have an emotional confrontation in the restaurant bathroom where Briony forgives Natalie and they return to find their dates hanging out with each other. Briony gets drunk and Mani takes her to his dad’s house. She wakes up at her boss’s house and is confused, but Barbie, a friend of Mani’s dad fills her in on the previous night. Lauren comes to rescue Briony and thinks that Mani had flirted with her, but Briony pushes off these concerns.

Natalie returns home but kisses Jason in the cab outside of her house, and her daughter sees. Martin is furious that Natalie didn’t break up with Jason and sleeps on the couch. Natalie hooks up with Jason at the gym, but he ties her up and ignores her non consent cues, which makes her finally break up with him.

Natalie loses the fetus and has a lot of pain, but Martin forgives her. Briony and Lauren party with Mani, and his father, during which Lauren manages to pull Mani’s ulterior motive from him. She secretly, records him ask her for a threesome with Briony and shows the tape to Briony who is disappointed that another man has soured. Lauren, Briony and Natalie all go out for drinks, and Lauren kisses Briony. Lauren admits to her that she loves her more than a friend and Briony realizes she too has hidden feelings for Lauren and they get together.
