Development Pitch

Eternally fouled as duty and destiny collide! Oblivion meets The Vast of Night. For middle-aged caretaker Sophia, a career in advanced agriculture becomes overshadowed by family drama, new lovers and fresh enemies as galactic transformation courts her. Filled with eye-opening and heart-wrenching twists, this unique take on the alien-invasion trope offers massive payoff and eternal consequences for the immediately relatable characters. Powerful voiceover akin to The Handmaid's Tale could keep audiences on edge and unbalanced. As Sophia's captors allow her to record her history one last time, she focuses on the prior fateful week of how her life unraveled. This gripping, twisty narrative of survival, desire, personal reinvention, and fate is more informal and forlorn than a diary. Her dictated - and sometimes distracted - retelling is simultaneously familiar, hilarious, and disturbing. We may know where and how she lived, but as she reveals more secrets, we understand why her recollections matter to us.

Accuracy of Book Profile

Yes, the book profile accurately reflects the book.

Draw of Story

Sophie is narrating her story, hinting that she is no longer herself anymore. That she is almost not human anymore. She is living in a dystopian society wear Earth is not sustaining life as it used to. There are many questions to what has happened and how Sophie and her mom ended up there.

Possible Drawbacks

The story tries to cover a lot of ground in a short period of time. There are jumps in the story that are distinct and could use better transitions. It is a novella and it is assumed that there will be a continuation where more will be explained.

Use of Special Effects

Primary Hook of Story

Sophie is living a normal life when she comes into contact with a alien lifeform that attached itself to her body. I enjoy the monotonous tone of the story told through Sophie after her transformation. It is also set up for future world building as Sophie becomes apart of this alien race travel from new world to new world.

Fanbase Potential

This could have a large fanbase as some science fiction stories do. Sophie is a very relatable character because she is blue color, midwestern woman doing the best she can. She ends up in extraordinary circumstances. There is also a lot of room for growth with the stories and the world. Sophie is leaving the Earth, not as a human but apart of this alien races ancient being. Mentally she is still intact and her perspective at her new reality will be interesting to see.

Awards Potential

This could have awards potential. Sophie is a great character with depth and the narrators perspective is of herself but now removed. The story does not play as a typically science fiction story because it is character driven.

What’s New About the Story

The story is original because there is no great resolution. The Earth is dying because of this alien entity attacking humanity. Sophie is transformed into something new as she begins a long life traveling through the stars. It is not filled with action and victory, it has distant, retrospective view.

Lead Characters

The lead character stands out because she is not the typical woman you see in science fiction stories. Her presence is quieter and more realistic.

Uniqueness of Story

This is an interesting and entertaining story that adds some life to the science fiction genre. It piques the curiosity of the audience on an intellectual level.

Analyst Recommendation

This story has very interesting storytelling that is quieter and more intellectual. It is character driven while giving a twist on science fiction stories. It has the capacity to be deeply impactful if the story is developed further.
