Development Pitch

CALLED INTO ACTION showcases K-9 Search and Rescue, a quirky small town, and a fish out of water trope. As a certified SAR canine handler myself, I drew on my experiences to make the aspects authentic. This book would appeal to film or TV based on current popular shows like 9-1-1, 9-1-1 Lone Star, and Station 19. Penelope Ramos has dreamed of being a K-9 search-and-rescue handler since she was a little girl. Armed with a quick mind and her German shepherd, Havoc, she rides into Maple Falls, Vermont, determined to get her certification. But plans change when an honest mistake sets fire to and destroys a ranger building on state land. Nothing's going right for park ranger Jay Gosling. On top of his grandfather's worsening Parkinson's, a park building goes up in flames. To add insult to injury, Jay has to supervise the arsonist after the court orders her to help rebuild the structure. His life is enough of a mess--he doesn't have the time or energy for a complication like Penelope. But when a young boy goes missing, he doesn’t have that luxury. Working side by side tests their tentative peace, but Jay and Penelope are together on one thing: they’ll both do whatever it takes to find the missing child—before it’s too late.
