Short Summary

The story is set in the backdrop of the War of 1812. It is about four young men who fought fearlessly and with a determination of complete freedom in the War. United States had waged a war against the British for supporting Native Americans and imposing trade restrictions with European countries. There was a desire among young men to fight for the country. Joseph joined the army against the wish of his girlfriend Florence. He met Wesley, Perry and Alfred at the training camp. The members of the training camp were given their first assignment to fight against the British troops at River Raisin. Perry met a young boy Jacob while guarding the River Raisin Camp. He got him a job of a cook in the US Army. Jacob too wished to join the army but Perry denied citing his age. US Army had to face defeat after some initial success at River Raisin. James Winchester, the Chief in Command was considered the reason for defeat at River Raisin. Alfred who fought bravely in the war was martyred by the enemy. Joseph was wounded in the war. Wesley, Perry and Jacob with the wounded Joseph managed to escape from being arrested as Prisoners of War. The Native Americans burnt the entire building where the wounded soldiers of US Army were being treated. This massive burning of the soldiers led to the war cry “Remember River Raisin.” Wesley, Joseph and Perry were provoked by the mass killing of the US Soldiers at River Raisin. They wanted to take revenge of the killing at River Raisin. They got a chance when US Army decided to attack the British Troops at York. US Army had success at Fort York but they lost General Pike and Perry in a mine blast at the entrance of the York Fort Gate. Wesley and Joseph were disturbed by the death of their close friend but they continued their fight with the British and Native Americans. They tasted another success at Fort George when they destroyed the enemy completely under the guidance of Major Benjamin. Wesley and Joseph were applauded by the Major for their courage and fighting skills in the battle.


The British took the decision of ending the war by signing the Treaty of Ghent. This was a major victory for the thousands of soldiers and the people of United States. The Treaty was signed leading to the removal of trade restrictions and the Native Americans were discarded by the British Army. Wesley and Joseph who fought bravely in the war were given a grand welcome at their native towns. Joseph vowed to marry Florence and spent rest of his life with her. Wesley took the job of training Jacob to become a soldier to fulfill Perry’s dream.
