Development Pitch

Based on a true story. Spencer, a schoolteacher, infiltrates an animal smuggling ring while teaching in the midst of an active war zone. When he learns the baby chimpanzee he was caring for was illegally smuggled to Iraq from Africa, Spencer vows to rescue Manno from his dire situation of ongoing abuse and threat of death from the war. But when his tour ends, a distraught Spencer is forced to abandon Manno and leave the country. Guilt-ridden back home, a determined Spencer finds the resolve to return to rescue his friend. In a race against time, and with both their lives on the line, they attempt to escape amongst advancing ISIS fighters and angry animal traffickers. At the risk of losing his friend forever, Spencer hatches a final desperate plan to get Manno on board the last transport plane out of Iraq at a fortified airbase, and to freedom. The riveting premise, believable characters, and heartfelt themes in "Saving Manno" should have very wide audience appeal.
