Development Pitch

Twenty-five years ago Jack and Kelly met. He can’t forget. She can’t remember. That’s because it hasn’t happened to her…yet. With its woman-on-a-quest and time-travel storyline, SEASPAN is pure escapist entertainment. Originally written as a screenplay and then adapted into a novella, this timeless adventure could also be adapted into a limited series. It’s visually spectacular ‘underwater world’ and its mostly tropical location, enhance Kelly Reed’s journey to her ultimate goal, finding the treasure within the Spanish galleon, Santisima Trinidad. It’s throwback timeline, covering several decades but mostly the ‘90’s, makes it very ‘in’ with retro being a crowd-pleasing storytelling vehicle. With its romance, adventure and fantasy elements, SEASPAN is sure to make a splash in a vast sea of viewing choices.

Accuracy of Book Profile

Book profile reflects book accurately, however there's a detail on 'Development Pitch': it is said Kelly was looking for a treasure within a Spanish Galleon and on page 6 of the book it is said it is a Portuguese Galleon.

Draw of Story

The most enticing thing about this story is that it is interesting and original; also characters/lines are witty and fun.

Possible Drawbacks

Nothing made me want to put the book down, reading is easy and passages happen fast enough.

Use of Special Effects

Primary Hook of Story

I would watch this movie because visuals are interesting and there are many possibilities from the idea of time travelling through diving in deep waters.

Fanbase Potential

It could have a large fanbase if adapted especially if the protagonist is better developed. This adaptation could become a type of sea-themed Dr. Who.

Awards Potential

This adaptation could also have awards potential because visuals involving the sea, a hidden treasure and time travelling locations are lavish.

Envisioned Budget

What’s New About the Story

The most original thing about this story is the mix between finding a hidden treasure deep in the sea, time travelling, Caribbean landscapes and New York City. To make it more unique, narrative could be developed in many ways arising from this possibility but involving more prolific goals for the main characters

Lead Characters

Kelly is the highly motivated heroine of the story. She is funny, charismatic, witty, loving and driven.

Uniqueness of Story

This story is original, unique and fun. It could, however, be enhanced if at least protagonist is better developed. Even though author states in Afterword she opted for a shorter story to make it more pleasurable for readers, and even though depthness of characters may not be obvious in audiovisual scenes, convincing characters are build solidly.

Possible Formats

Film: Studio, Indie, Streaming TV Series: Network, Cable, Limited Run / Mini-Series, Streaming

Analyst Recommendation

It is a great story with an original narrative, great visuals, interesting elements, and there are endless interesting possibilities to it. The narrative would profit if there was more into Kelly's goals other than just individual wishes.
