Development Pitch
Sophie's Journal is the harrowing story of a woman with an anxiety disorder's journey from victim to empowered, lit by the lamp of a little girl in her classroom with a wonderful and dangerous gift. Sophie's powers to affect future events via her journal entries are an unconscious event, though it is human nature to take control of shortcuts like this. In the hands of her desperate teacher, this gift is fraught with error. Only after suffering great losses while trying to manipulate the gift, does Cathy learn that in the things she long ignored--her compassion, the depth of her love, and her inaction to control her life--lie happiness and the slaying of her disorder. Sophie's Journal is a modern tale of a woman coming out of the shadows, after painful and lasting loss. The undertones of motherhood and infertility are subtle but woven throughout, a subconscious element to this journey of a young woman, so alone, and so not.
