The Quest of the Guardians is a natural for adaptation to film. Each episode completes one part of the journey while providing a trail of clues that will lead viewers to the 4th and final episode. Each book has a story capable of standing alone as one film in a series, but they could be adapted into 2 long films or a TV series, too. The over-arching conflict is that the planet will be destroyed if the characters fail in their quest, but they must grow and evolve along the way to even understand what needs to be done, because their initial beliefs lack the insights that they must discover—which is that they cannot do it alone and need to unite all the peoples of their world to generate the needed power to stop the catastrophe. The MCs and their friends travel through four elemental realms, each with its own distinct culture that represent different cross-sections of society: the workers, the hippies, the intellectuals, and the red-necks. Each with their own world-views and ideas about how things should be. The MCs encounter friends and foes while battling bizarre creatures, discovering clues, solving riddles, and racing against the alignment of three moons. Only to discover in the end, that it wasn’t enough. That they need all the different cultures to stop fighting and come together as one...which requires their willingness to make that choice. Drop of Water is second in the series. Dust of Earth & Gust of Wind are also available on TaleFlick. Spark of Fire is being written.
ACTION, FANTASY, DRAMA
The story continues following Malakai and King Jakin as they try to recollect the lost magic, and take back the kingdom. They sail to new lands to encounter new people and new creatures while trying to find the long lost magic. King Faeran's 300 year existence is coming to an end as King Jakin reunites with the Tra'hez and begins using it again.
Authors Writing Style: FAIR
Franchise Potential: EXCELLENT
Accuracy of Book Profile
The Book Profile does reflect the book.
Draw of Story
The story is the second part of a story, and it previously ended with a village being massacred. It picks up where the first part left off, and dives into a different world with new and exciting people and creatures.
A lot of what happens in this story feels very drawn out. Most of it is about the characters journey to find the magical elements they need to bring down King Faeran. They spend the whole story with that singular goal, which doesn't really evolve.
Use of Special Effects
THE STORY RELIES HEAVILY ON SPECIAL EFFECTS
Primary Hook of Story
The hook for this book is that it is a sequel and that it shows magical worlds outside of the first book. This movie would attract audiences because of the new creatures, the underwater world, the sky city, and the overall magic that is shown.
This could have a large fanbase because this would be the second part of a multiple part story and would have an established fanbase.
I do not see this having awards potential. This story does not have much depth. The characters are one dimensional.

What’s New About the Story
The story is original in its world building. It has massive sea creatures, webbed and gilled humans, cities in the sky protected by magic. At the core, this is a quest adventure and it holds true to that formula.
There is nothing about the lead characters that stand out. Malakai is a young man who is thrown into an adventure to help King Jakin. He is a teenager, needing guidance and assurance about his next steps. He also deals with typical teenage problems, like crushes. There is not much about him besides that.
Uniqueness of Story
This is an above average story, as it takes the first part of the story and elevates it slightly. As a sequel and stepping stone to the third and final part, it works.
Film - Streaming, TV Series - Limited Run / Mini-Series, TV Series - Streaming
This is a consider rather than a “recommend” because it isn't unique, and as a young adult genre story, it doesn't offer a great deal of drama and depth that a period drama could. It’s still a good story, though.
