Development Pitch
This would be an ideal date movie. It is a romantic comedy about comedy. The story of a shy, orphaned, garden-centre genius, great with plants but without any sense of humor taking stand-up classes to get one and win the girl of his dreams. He ends up being famous for being total rubbish, realising that the girl he really loves is someone totally different (a woman who is a single mom, a photographer with a quirky but problematic kid and almost too funny for her own good). he finally learns that you don't have to make the world laugh, just make the right person smile. Must Have GSOH is full of laughter, brimming with heart and warmth, yet also very raw, sometimes cruel, quite sexy and abrasive. Our hero is clearly on the spectrum. There are great roles for comic actors who can find the pain beneath the laughter. The novelist, author of five published novels, is also a BAFTA-nominated comedy writer/screenwriter and creator of several hit BBC series.
