    Synopsis

25 year old Benjamin Huang is serving time in a detention center in the United States. He has been in and out of jail several times. His tragic past contains the painful memories of a horrific accident that killed his parents and sister. His only relative is his grandfather and he passes away just before Benjamin is released from jail.

However, Benjamin’s grandfather, aware he was not long for this world, took it upon himself to secure a brighter future for his grandson. Before his death, he arranged for his friend Sifu Wang to travel to the United States and bring Benjamin back to Malaysia. Sifu Wang promised his friend that he would take Benjamin under his wing and teach him to become enlightened in the ways of the universe.

Sifu Wang comes for Benjamin, but Benjamin quickly gets away from him and seeks out revenge on his old friend Ryan who is responsible for Benjamin’s latest jail stay. After Benjamin gets into a bar fight and starves for a few days, Sifu Wang returns for him. This time Benjamin is compliant and willing to go along with Sifu Wang to fulfill the last wishes of his grandfather.

Sifu Wang brings him back to Malaysia and introduces him to his wife Carmen. She welcomes Benjamin with open arms. Sifu Wang also sets Benjamin up with a job at a recycling center. His boss, Sampah Tan, is also very welcoming. Benjamin meets a recycling client named Kendrick. He is the same age as Benjamin and he is caring for his dying mother Vicky. Benjamin feels great compassion towards Kendrick and Vicky so he befriends them. Kendrick appreciates Benjamin’s company and teaches him about betting games that can potentially bring him a large fortune.

After he gets settled in, Benjamin begins to study the teaching of Qi Gong with Sifu Wang. When Benjamin tells Sifu Wang about Vicky’s predicament, Sifu Wang teaches Benjamin about the chakras in the human body and they both teach Vicky how to get over the anger at her ex-husband that is causing her cancer to manifest. Once she gets a handle on the negative emotion, her illness disappears.

Benjamin plays the betting games with Kendrick while he continues to learn Qi Gong and meditation from Sifu Wang. During the training, Benjamin is able to flash back to the accident that killed his family and Sifu Wang comforts him with stories about the sacrifices his grandfather made for him.

Sifu Wang teaches Benjamin a technique called hard breathing. It allows him to access deep memories, not only from his current life, but of his many past lives throughout history as well. He is able to briefly experience each one of his past personas to inform the person he wants to become in this life. He is a quick study and Sifu Wang imparts his most impactful idea of “I Am That I Am”, helping Benjamin to reaffirm himself as God. This resonates deeply with Benjamin and he uses this chant in his meditation as he works toward enlightenment. As he continues to master all the teachings of Sifu Wang, Benjamin wins the lottery betting game. He decides to use the money for charity. This inspires Sifu Wang and Carmen to give their own winnings away to Benjamin so he can start a business and have a secure financial future.
