Development Pitch

Michael is a 57 year-old man living in Wisconsin presently, surviving on disability. His life and his business were irrevocably altered for the worse by a serious motorcycle accident, which resulted in TBI, his battle with alcoholism, and finally, a criminal conspiracy carried out against him while he was impaired by the TBI and the struggle to kick his alcohol addiction. He has been successful in overcoming his alcoholism, regaining some of his of physical health, and is still in the process of inexorably bringing the perpetrators of fraud, attempted murder, and character assassination to something resembling justice. He achieved these current successes through a combination of mental toughness, inspirational doggedness, his strong Christian faith and a desire to clear his name. It’s quite a story. A story that beggars belief, really.

Accuracy of Book Profile

Book profile reflects book accurately.

Draw of Story

The scene to open the book is visually interesting: a man with his Harley-Davidson on the road followed by a heavy accident.

Possible Drawbacks

A few things made me want to put the book down, though. Protagonist doesn't offer much detail about his life before the accident; his childhood, beliefs, family life and overall context. Readers end up finding it hard to trust his claims about other people without really knowing the character. There are also moments in which the narrator calls Shane's kids illegitimate, which is highly offensive to such children and other people who may be reading. Narrator also makes offensive comments about a woman's body because she is overweight, even being himself a victim of abuse because of his disability. Narrative is also not finished.

Use of Special Effects

THE STORY RELIES A LITTLE BIT ON SPECIAL EFFECTS

Primary Hook of Story

I would watch this movie if protagonist was a bit more clear about his own faults and offered a bit more context about himself, even if people have clearly done him wrong.

Fanbase Potential

This story needs more development to evaluate whether it could or couldn't have a large fanbase.

Awards Potential

The narrative is not developed enough to know if it could have Awards potential; however it may be a possibility since there's a lot of work to be put into it to make it adaptable.

What’s New About the Story

The narrative has to be developed in order to turn this story believable and therefore, unique; there is an interesting sequence of events but characters are one-sided and not relatable.

Lead Characters

Michael is a man struggling with his alcohol addiction who seems to be one of the last honest people in town.

Uniqueness of Story

To be considered a rare gem this story has to be substantially improved, especially considering this is a biography - in terms of context, feelings, faults and deeper elements involving protagonist's life. Excessive defensiveness, even though it may sound necessary due to the circumstances, doesn't work in favor of the narrative.

Analyst Recommendation

WORK IN PROGRESS

Justification

While the story has many positive points, it has room for improvement (see possible paths below). If you can't change the story at this point, my suggestion is using your notes as a guide to highlight the best aspects of it when taking the next steps, either putting a pitch page together, a treatment, or a presentation.

Tips for Improvement

The much needed changes are writing the rest of the narrative; providing more insight to protagonist's context and more relatable passages needed.
