The story begins in their local graveyard as Zak and Jimmy recount the stories they have made up about the familiar gravestones, based on the names and dates of birth and death. In the graveyard they meet a schoolfriend who acts strangely, and they later discover that he has become a zombie.

After a breathless race through the deeper parts of the graveyard they construct an explosion which chemically affects the outbreak of zombies, destroying those that remain. The zombie hunters win the day as they remove all trace of their ever having been an outbreak of zombies.

Development Pitch

The History Of Zombies makes a perfect introduction for young teens into the world of Zombies. The premise that there are different types of zombies lends itself to sequels, and the historical “map” of the evolution of zombies gives authenticity to the storyline. The four main characters, two children and two adults, provide interesting dynamics, particularly as one of the adults is the father of the lesser of the child characters. The project draws comparisons with Shaun Of The Dead, Zombieland, Ghostbusters and others, but with a target audience of 10-15. There is horror, but it is not too graphic! Synopsis Zak and Jimmy love their X-Boxes, and they love shooting virtual zombies. They come across a schoolfriend whilst playing in the local graveyard, and his behaviour leads them to suspect something is not quite right. As they discuss it they are overheard by Jimmy’s father who they learn is a zombie hunter. He has a chart detailing The History Of Zombies; what types there are, what their characteristics are, and how dangerous they are. When Mr Johnson realises there is a zombie outbreak in his town he calls in Joshua Lordsmith, the chief zombie hunter, who has a van that is equipped with all of the latest zombie hunting equipment. They pursue the source of the zombie outbreak, and after a breathless chase through the graveyard they put into action their plan to eradicate zombies by a controlled explosion. This destroys the zombies whilst leaving everything else untouched.

About The Author

Michael Madden has worked for many years in the IT industry, as a result of which he has been quoted in publications as prestigious as the New York Times. However, until recently writing has been very much a part-time occupation. He published the children’s picture book “Ole And Zac And The Port Of Tumbattle”, and he followed this with the adult humorous fiction novel Stags! Mmm…No1…Cookbook was his first venture into non-fiction, and was conceived simply to bring a bit of order to his sometimes chaotic kitchen by putting all of his everyday recipes in one place. His first publishing contract was with Music Mentor Books with whom he published the acclaimed authorised biography Mike Sanchez Big Town Playboy with foreword provided by Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant. In 2017 he created Elvis Under The Covers, exploring the legacy of Elvis Presley through the artists who have recorded his most often covered original songs. Once again the foreword was provided by a musical icon, in this case glam-rock singer and musician Suzi Quatro. He has had several articles published in newspapers and magazines, on subject matter ranging from the growth in Print On Demand publishing, to articles on Olympic hopefuls, and even a preview and review of a performance by rockabilly legend Sleepy Labeef, that included an interview with the singer himself. He regularly undertakes interviews with star performers at the Leek Blues & Moorlands Americana Festival, where his pieces often feature prominently. Originally from Sale in Cheshire, Michael now lives with his wife Sally in the more peaceful surroundings of Whaley Bridge, in the Peak District.

Accuracy of Book Profile

Yes, the book profile accurately reflects the book.

Draw of Story

The story is a different take on zombies. It begins with the idea that zombies have been misunderstood and that they are not flesh eaters. This story is also told from a child's perspective which adds an air of awe to events with the zombies.

Possible Drawbacks

This story alludes to the explanation of the history of zombies when it is more of an realistic explanation of zombies. It would be interesting to learn the origins of zombies in this story considering the unique ideology of the zombies here. This would add to the world building of the story.

Use of Special Effects

Primary Hook of Story

The hook is that a Zak and Jimmy stumble upon a hidden world of zombies and zombie "doctors". I would watch this movie for the different perspective on zombies. This also has a Ghostbusters feel with a local band of zombie helpers in a van helping those infected with the disease.

Fanbase Potential

This would have a smaller fanbase similar to films where tweens star in adult situations. Monster films have somewhat of a wide appeal but the cross section between that and tween films would be a smaller audience.

Awards Potential

This does not have awards potential. It is a fun ride with some gross monster moments that would be entertaining to audiences.

What’s New About the Story

The lore surrounding the zombies is original. The zombies are not the undead with the only way to stop them is to kill them. There are different levels to the infection and they can be cured if reached in time. There is also a secret society of people equipped with the knowledge of how to treat those infected.

Lead Characters

The lead characters are a group of bored, 12 year old boys who fall into the world of zombies. They are typical, American pre-teens that react to the events of the story in a predictable way.

Uniqueness of Story

This is an interesting twist on a well known story. An outbreak essentially happens in this small town and the zombie hunters try to staunch it. It is entertaining and a new twist on the old story.

Analyst Recommendation

This is a fun story that presents a more complex zombie. The different diagnosis and levels of infection are more interesting. The film would be geared to a tween audiences but still be entertaining for adults.
