Development Pitch
The story open with Porter, a Confederate soldier deserter, as he passes Quinn’s ranch. Quinn’s father has just died, and he needs help digging the grave. Porter helps and before long, he’s a permanent fixture on Quinn’s ranch. We learn that Quinn’s daughters have abandoned him—Sammy for a Mormon polygamist, and Rose for her Uncle James’s farm. When Quinn learns Rose is considering escaping to Utah to become a sister wife to Sammy’s husband, Quinn and Porter visit his brother’s ranch to talk her out of it. There, Porter and Rose develop an unexpected romance. During this time, a group of mercenaries ride through. They have been hired by a rich plantation owner to go into the Mormon territory and reclaim his daughter—a sister wife to Sammy’s husband. Rose sneaks off in the night to follow the hired guns, hoping to rescue Sammy. Porter learns of Rose’s plan and follows, knowing that if he cannot reach Rose in time, it may prove deadly. It does. What starts as a idyllic Western, evolves into a cautionary tale of bloody revenge and blind faith.
