Short Summary

Lacey Fitzpatrick is still trying to get her life in order after resigning from the LAPD amid the scandal of her ex-vice cop boyfriend's drug-dealing ways. When she discovers that an old cold case of hers may have been opened again by a psychic medium, she has to be part of the investigation.

With one case under their belts, Lacey and Sam move on to a new haunting and discover a murder where no record of one exists. The LAPD isn't interested in psychic impressions, so they must gather hard evidence to bring justice to the dead.

Development Pitch

Lacey comes from a background of police work, lawfulness and punishment for wrongdoing. She is detail-oriented and down-to-earth and excels at research. Sam is driven by his Native American traditions and works to free anguished souls from their prison on earth so that harmony may be restored to the universe. Although the two come from very different backgrounds, they realize they both want the same thing: justice. This book is number 1 of a popular series of 28 books (at present), and in each book, Sam and Lacey investigate a haunting (or two), discover what holds the tortured soul, and strive to release it. Along the way, they often delve deep into personal conflicts, religious beliefs, issues of redemption, and the supernatural. In addition, their own relationship evolves and deepens, and the psychic abilities of Sam and his two children develop in surprising ways. Locations vary from California to the Navajo reservation in Arizona, other states like New York, and even other countries like Ireland and Israel. With 28 separate but continuous stories written, it would make an excellent TV series or movie franchise.
