Short Summary

5 pro card players enter a tournament where battles are enacted in real time by holograms. Each has their own motivations to play but they will all be thrown together by the existence of the holographic AI, Carnival, who claims to be alive. Soon, Carnival’s existence hangs in the balance.

Having uncovered the reason for Carnival’s existence, and fought an unexpected battle, the surviving characters find their live irrevocably changed. Fahrn and Maria must heal their relationship, Lana believes that Carnival is alive and now wishes to protect her, and John and Carnival walk free.


Mostly a sporting venue in an unnamed city, but also a floating Earth-like colony built within our solar system, and the spaceship that acts as one of the character's home.
