When supernaturally ignorable Wendell Coombs is noticed for the first time in years by a reclusive but curious young woman named Esme, he enlists her to help him save his only friend: an ailing houseplant.

Short Summary

Esme comes across Wendell sitting on the edge of the Boston Public Garden bridge and, realizing no one else seems to see him or his three foot ficus, introduces herself. Wendell is too shocked to hold a conversation. As the two go about their days, neither one can forget the other.

In the course of an increasingly absurd (and ultimately futile) attempt to save the ficus, Esme and Wendell emerge from their respective isolations to form a deep friendship.

About The Author

Lauren Coffin writes odd little books with great affection for people. Her work includes literary fiction, magical realism, horror, and a nonzero amount of nonsense. The nonsense might be her favorite.
