Halo Falls is not your typical horror novel. The storyline is unique, as well as the characters and setting. The movie potential is fantastic and the ending even allows for a sequel. A television series has promise since the plot, setting, characters and even the ghosts possess endless directions. (The Plot) Halo Falls introduces five hopeless friends who find themselves unexpectedly out of a job and desperate enough to try anything that will help make ends meet. A television advertisement from the new Specter Channel lifts them out of the gloomy unemployment trap with one simple contest. The intriguing ad offered viewers a chance at one million dollars plus their own ghost hunting series if they can submit convincing footage of an actual haunting. They waste no time examining this opportunity and unanimously agree to embark on the exciting new job prospect. The violent history lurking over their hometown of Dusky and the bloody destruction of the long extinct settlement of Halo Falls gave them more than enough material needed to enter the contest. With absolutely no intentions of actually finding a ghost, the five of them make the ill-fated decision to fabricate footage of a haunting and submit it as the grand prize entry. Unfortunately, their dive into ghost hunting is short lived as they come face to face with the entities that have terrorized and haunted the region and the quiet town of Dusky for centuries in a dark rush of unimaginable terror with no escape.
A group of friends visit a legendary town planning to fake a haunting in order to win a big prize. However, the ghosts turn out to be very real, and none of them comes out of there alive.
Authors Writing Style: FAIR
Franchise Potential: GOOD
Accuracy of Book Profile
Yes, it is accurate.
Draw of Story
The fact that it is from the very beginning a very classical horror story.
It spends too much time with the introduction, which might diminish the interest in the main storyline. There are also not much references to these ancient events later. So, this small origin tale could have less space in the adaptation.
Use of Special Effects
THE STORY RELIES HEAVILY ON SPECIAL EFFECTS
Primary Hook of Story
It is a very classical, merciless horror story, which might attract fans of the genre.
Maybe not a large one, but a good adaptation could establish a fanbase, especially with the possibility of a franchise.
Not really, it doesn't seem to fit the profile or to have unique elements enough to build Awards potential.

What’s New About the Story
There is not much original about this story, since it follows most of the tropes of the horror genre. Some of the ghost apparitions are a little different from the usual, but maybe the characters could be more unique and remarkable than this bunch of generic people.
They are adventurous, somewhat courageous, but also reckless and morally dubious.
Uniqueness of Story
Not really. There should be more elements to make it unique and memorable. The way it is, it feels too similar to other horror stories.

WORK IN PROGRESS
While the story has many positive points, it has room for improvement (see possible paths below). If you can't change the story at this point, my suggestion is using your notes as a guide to highlight the best aspects of it when taking the next steps, either putting a pitch page together, a treatment, or a presentation.
Tips for Improvement
The initial ancient events take too much time to develop and don't seem to have such a strong impact in the general story, so it could be cut to half in a movie adaptation in order for it to have a clear focus on the main contemporary narrative. Also, even though we spend most of the book following the main characters' misadventures, their personalities should be more developed and unique for them to be actually appealing to the audience. Actually, in the adaptation, the story could be more direct to the point, since the book spends most of its length showing the group traveling to Halo Falls, instead of already creating a horror atmosphere from the beginning. So, as a whole, the adaptation should care more about its characters and the horror atmosphere, focusing less on ancient history and more on a coherent, bone-chilling haunting tale.
