Development Pitch
My story provides an inside look at the effects of poverty, illiteracy, and societal prejudices I battle to finally become the self-aware person I am today. It speaks for many who grew up in the shadow of the Depression and into the confines of the fifties, the challenges and freedoms of the sixties, and survived the abandonment of the seventies. My story 'I Can See Clearly Now' is at once commonplace and unique. It is a story shared by many women of my time and places,, perhaps not so much in specific detail, but definitely in overall struggles, defeats, and victories. I married my eighth grade teacher in search of a better life that eventually leads me through four marriages, the birth of a son, the loss of siblings, parents, and grandparents. My journey leads me to Memphis Tennessee, where I learned my trade as a waitress in the bars and restaurants. Later on in my life I would fight for victory over a devastating disease.
