Welcome to 2052, humanity’s last year on Earth. With only 215 days left until the Apocalypse, Allister Adams, a young Evolutionary in hiding, fights for alien artifacts that promise humanity’s salvation.

Short Summary

Allister intervenes to stop a terror attack on the District and is kidnapped by a government-organized task force of genetically advanced Evolutionaries like him. He learns he's the only living Evolutionary able to withstand the radiation of the artifacts due to his alien energy powers.

Allister's mother sacrifices herself so that Allister can enter the mystical cavern that exists outside of time to retrieve the artifacts. Inside, he faces the alien guardian of the realm and defeats them using his alien energy, then retrieves the artifacts.

Development Pitch

The Lost Children of Andromeda was originally crafted in my second-grade class under the title Dragon Wars. 26 years later, 205Z: Time and Salvation opens the series as a multi-POV Dystopian Sci-fi Fantasy novel with the subversive political undertones of Tomi Adeyemi’s Children of Blood and Bone and the galactic sweep of Alastair Reynolds’ Revelation Space. Vivid world building lends itself to the grittiness of Blade Runner and the tangible angst of Ready Player One, or the darkness of The Matrix: Reloaded. Still others explore the metaphysical and offer the reality-bending experience present in Inception and Dr. Strange. The story is episodic, with gripping narrative across a diverse cast of characters, some controversial like Cersei from Game of Thrones, some more prophetic like Morpheus, some valiant like T’challa himself. The audience gets to identify with this cast, defend them like friends, hate them like enemies, debate their choices, and determine if they’d make similar ones, given the circumstances. Ultimately, it is a look inward, at ourselves and our contributions in a world caught between what was and what could be. If a series, it’d work with 10-12 episodes per season, one season per novel. If a film, one film per novel. From an audience perspective, we give them something they didn’t know they needed, like Handmaid’s Tale or WestWorld or Watchmen, staying true to the call for diversity in storytelling.

Narrative Elements

Authors Writing Style: GOOD

Characterization: EXCELLENT

Commerciality: EXCELLENT

Franchise Potential: EXCELLENT

Structure: GOOD

Theme: GOOD

Accuracy of Book Profile

Yes - perhaps mention some of the romance that takes place. It's not central but romance broadens the overall demographics of moviegoers.

Draw of Story

The premise. I like the paradigm of "what would you do if the apocalypse were all but certain?"

Possible Drawbacks

Nothing made me put the book down. However, I did kinda feel like a female protagonist would have been better than a male. Maybe it's just because most YA SCi-Fi films I've seen have female leads.

Use of Special Effects

Primary Hook of Story

Can a group of young outcasts still coming of age save the world from certain doom?

Fanbase Potential

Yes. YA films of this nature do very well. It has all the elements of a successful "overcoming all odds" journey of discovery that young adults like while also attracting Sci-Fi fans in general.

Awards Potential

Maybe in special effects.

Envisioned Budget

What’s New About the Story

Usually in YA stories the young protagonists are primarily trying to save themselves. In this one they have an even bigger responsibility - to save humanity. My only change would be to make the protagonist female.

Lead Characters

Their view of the world they live in makes them unique. They are outcasts who don't believe in the status quo.

Uniqueness of Story

It's not necessarily a "rare gem" but for a formulaic genre script it has a lot of potential.

Possible Formats

Analyst Recommendation

This has a good foundation for a successful Young Adult (YA) film. With a decent screenplay and central characters that are both talented and attractive, this could succeed quite well.
