Development Pitch

Struggles of the Soul is a fictional story centered around a young family as they grow up under the influence of a unique Senior Citizen, Hal, who, like Clint Eastwood, refuses to let the old man in and plays touch football in he park at 60 years of age and beyond. One beautiful Autumn day, Hal meets a young family and becomes special to each member. Hals football finesse that day makes him an immediate hero to Jimmy and Johnny and best buddies with Jennifer, his new team partner. Invited to church and dinner after the game, begins a beautiful relationship between Hal and the family: Bill, Marg, Jen, Johnny an Jimmy. As the story evolves, Hal mentors each member of the family with kindness and wisdom. You will see Jimmy grow up under Hal’s coaching to become a pro football player. And Jimmy will have a huge surprise for Hale later when he brings his girl home to meet the family and she turns out to be Hal’s stepdaughter, Liz. Hal takes Dad, Bill, on a fishing trip into central Georgia and counsels him on his trouble marriage. And Marge gets Hal to tell his business and personal struggles and temptations. Johnny goes to Iraq where he becomes a hero and brings home a lovely “black-eyed girl” whom he rescued under fire. The 9-year-old Jen becomes the favorite and cons Hal into all her activities. As Jen grows, she meets Liz and they become soul mates. The last chapter is a dual marriage and ends beautifully -- then Hal leaves town for another venture.
