Development Pitch

I have an original limited series YA supernatural thriller called "This Girl's Secret" adapted from my novel, "Her Terrifying Love." This is a creepy-as-hell Young Hollywood story that unfolds in the world of Lyla Perry, a high school senior. Like Hulu’s “Light As A Feather,” "This Girl's Secret" is a thriller that brings the horrors of the classic ghost story into the realm of the familiar and contemporary. This award-winning story was also workshopped on Wattpad (170K reads). Because “This Girl’s Secret” is serialized, the structure flows like a TV series with built-in chapters and cliffhangers. In ten, 30-minute binge-worthy episodes, “This Girl’s Secret” takes us on a harrowing journey through Lyla’s heart-pounding nightmare. This genre-bending supernatural thriller weaves elements of murder mystery, romance, high school drama, and, of course, a terrifying ghost story.

I'd love to send the pilot episode and the series bible your way.

Accuracy of Book Profile

It accurately reflects the book.

Draw of Story

It already starts in a terrifying scene, so the book already shows its tone from the first page. The school universe, very familiar to the target audience, is also a plus for those who like this narrative type.

Possible Drawbacks

Although the book manages to keep the suspense properly and delivers exciting horror moments, the story sounds slightly repetitive with Keenan's constant appearances.

Use of Special Effects

THE STORY RELIES A LITTLE BIT ON SPECIAL EFFECTS

Primary Hook of Story

The hook is this evil ghost of the toxic ex-boyfriend who returns from death to take revenge on young Lyla. The book has an interesting mix of problems involving youth, abusive relationships, and horror.

Fanbase Potential

I believe so. In addition to the attention-grabbing horror scenes, the story has diverse elements to attract its target audience.

Awards Potential

Suppose the audiovisual production tends towards this abusive relationship and Keenan's toxic masculinity. It could utilize this ghost as an analogy to traumas caused by abusive relationships, which stay with the victim even after the break-up. In this case, the story could become more relevant dramatically and have more substantial chances of winning awards.

What’s New About the Story

The toxic romance in which this abusive man insists on harassing his ex-girlfriend even after his death is intriguing and somewhat original. However, it could be further developed.

Lead Characters

Lyla is a girl like any other, which makes her even more appealing. She struggles with trauma related to her abusive ex-boyfriend and the dramas of adolescence. The supporting characters who live around Lyla are also familiar enough to bring us closer to a supernatural story.

Uniqueness of Story

It is not a rare gem, but it's a horror film with elements enough to make us reflect beyond the jump scares.

Analyst Recommendation

CONSIDER

Justification

It is not a highly unique story, but it meets the genre's requirements adequately and has enough elements to attract the target audience that likes horror with a teen background. The book already begins in a terrifying scene and does not wait too long before showing its tone. The characters are ordinary, making them even more interesting since we are talking about a film that involves the supernatural. We care even more about Lyla because she is a girl like any other we know. The horror-building scenes lean more to fright and tension than psychological horror, but they work very well with the book's narrative and thematic style. The story entertains since it is quite easy to follow without seeming too obvious and too cliché. The dialogues are good and match the plot and age of the characters. The school environment brings extra conflicts for this girl already tormented by the ghost of an ex-boyfriend. The plot offers possibilities for an analogy about abusive relationships that would be quite interesting to watch. This abusive boyfriend's ghost can be analogous to the traumas of women who live with these wounds and are pursued by memories of toxic relationships. This analogy could bring a fresh and more relevant air to the horror plot. In general, it is a good book for what it proposes to offer and has room for improvement.
