Take the lives of a self-deprecating couple from England, steeped in life's troubles, and whisk them across the Channel to France. Laugh with them as they encounter hilarious situations in France - from troublesome workmen , the infamous bureaucracy, and even sex a la francaise!

Short Summary

Him Indoors has a winning line in humorous put-downs at his market stall, whilst she has suffered 30 years of banging her head on the glass ceiling in her university job. A fire at the market proves the ignition point to their lives, The idea of emigration rises like a phoenix from the ashes.

After the shock of learning a new language and realising that the French are not like the English at all, at last a miraculous transition from English doom and gloom to la belle vie francaise has happened. But have the French understood Him Indoors' ironic wit? Non!

Development Pitch

At this present time, there’s a great need for books to make us smile. This is that rare event: a comedy written by a woman. It takes the reader on a journey from the poor suburbs of Birmingham, England, to the sun-filled lifestyle of SW France. En route, there are chapters about French communities, language, French workmen, markets, playing boules and much more. But essentially, it is real-life adventures with the unexpected humour of one culture clashing with another. Already it is a 4 times international best-seller and in its digital form, nearly a million pages have been read so far. This proves there is not enough accessible laugh-out-loud comedy for all the family to enjoy. It would be wonderful if this could be transferred to the big screen also, so that a greater audience can enjoy it and overcome for a little while the difficulties in this world. This submission certainly fills the bill. You can read the first few pages under the Look Inside feature on Amazon: I plan to write its humorous sequel shortly, explaining why and how we returned to the UK, and the impact of Brexit.
